Holberg Sept. 23rd - 25th

Not much going on on the 23rd, Pat and Kelly serviced Pat's sewing machine and then Pat and I went into Port Hardy for some shopping.

Holberg was our destination for the 24th, which is on the way to Cape Scott. We all decided to brave the 79k of gravel roads and go there for lunch. The Scarlet Ibis, Vancouver Islands most remote pub, looked interesting. Their web site said they were open at 1:00pm, the note on their door said 3:00pm. We got there about 12:30pm, we weren't going to wait around till they opened, so that was a no. It took us about 5 minutes to explored the whole town but absolutely nothing was open, including an outhouse. As the gravel road was very rough and we were getting hungry, it was decided to head back. Still it was a nice drive and we are glad we went. Some great views.

From the dock in Holberg.

We went to the brew pub in Port McNeil for lunch. Back to the campground for a hangout.
As promised, Pat and I went back to Telegraph Cove. Interesting to us, in 1930 there was a barge that had a building on it, that was heading to Pender Harbour. It was going to be their hospital. In a big storm it slipped off the barge and Fred Wastell towed it to shore and used it to house workers. A few more pictures of the board walk and area.

There was a big whale museum on the wharf, it burnt on December 31, 2024, along with a restaurant and dock. They are working at rebuilding it all now.

They have a lot of story boards along the walkway. Hopefully you can read some of them.

A few more.

All for now, off to find lunch.
